At Voice4Change England, we believe that healthy communities are empowered communities. This past week, our team was out in full force at two vibrant summer events, connecting with hundreds of residents, sharing vital health information, and raising awareness about the importance of political literacy through our GLA-backed campaign, Your Voice, Your Democracy.
Newham Summer Health Mela: Bringing Democracy to the Heart of the Community

On 29 May 2025, Sophia Hossain, our dedicated Infrastructure and Development Officer, hosted an information stall at the bustling Newham Summer Health Mela. The event, attended by around 100 people, was a fantastic opportunity to reach out to the local community with information about civic engagement.
Sophia distributed Greater London Authority (GLA) fliers and raised awareness about the Your Voice, Your Democracy campaign. This initiative is all about helping people understand how democracy works, why their voice matters, and how they can get involved in shaping decisions that affect their lives.

Tower Hamlets Summer Health Fair and Musical Programme: Co-Creating Change
On 31 May 2025, Dr. Sharmin Shajahan (Deputy Director, Voice4Change England) and Azad Hussain (Organisational Support Officer) attended the lively Summer Health Fair and Musical Programme in Tower Hamlets. With an impressive turnout of 250 to 300 people, the event buzzed with music, conversation, and community spirit.
Voice4Change England set up another information stall, engaging attendees with resources on both health and democracy. Dr. Sharmin Shajahan took the opportunity to spotlight our recent Diabetes workshops in Newham and Tower Hamlets, as well as upcoming cancer awareness workshops, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to community health education.
They also promoted the Your Voice, Your Democracy campaign, encouraging residents to get involved, stay informed, and take action in their communities.

Why Political Literacy Matters
The Your Voice, Your Democracy campaign, supported by the GLA, is designed to break down barriers to political participation. Many people feel disconnected from politics, unsure of how decisions are made or how they can influence them. Our campaign offers workshops, resources, and events to help everyone, regardless of background or experience, understand their rights, their power, and the importance of having their say.
