Newham Diabetes Workshop: Bringing the Bangladeshi Community and Health Professionals Together for Better Diabetes Care

On Wednesday, April 30th, Voice4Change England, in partnership with the Bangla Housing Association and the London Bangladeshi Health Partnership, hosted a successful Diabetes Workshop at Forest Gate Library, Newham. Funded by NHS North East London Integrated Care Board, the event aimed to bring together Bangladeshi diabetic patients, health professionals, local authorities, and other system stakeholders to identify gaps in diabetes prevention and management and explore ways to improve access to services.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for open dialogue through interactive table discussions. Participants shared their experiences and perspectives on what works well in diabetes care and what barriers exist, especially around culturally appropriate services. Key topics included understanding the needs of the Bangladeshi community, identifying trusted places and people for health information, and brainstorming solutions to overcome access challenges.

Feedback gathered during the event will contribute to a co-produced action plan with clear recommendations to enhance diabetes services in Newham, ensuring they are more inclusive, accessible, and tailored to the community’s needs.

We would like to thank all attendees for their valuable contributions and commitment to improving health outcomes. This collaborative approach marks an important step towards better diabetes prevention and management for the Bangladeshi community in Newham.

Stay tuned for updates on the action plan and how these insights will shape future health services.
